Shira Sandell is a National Board Certified Teacher with 30 years experience as a bilingual educator and advocate. Her passion and areas of expertise include English language learner instruction, dual language instruction (Spanish/English), Spanish as a second language instruction, literacy, curriculum development, and educational leadership. Throughout her career, Shira has taught elementary dual language classes, elementary and secondary Spanish classes, and supported teachers as a literacy coach. She served as Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator in collaboration with her school and the California Center for the Arts Escondido to advocate and support arts integration. Shira choreographed and directed several student performances for the annual smART Festival at the California Center for the Arts. She has collaborated with colleagues to plan innovative lessons integrating music, art, and poetry. A bilingual poem she wrote, “Eres el espejo”/“You are the mirror” appears in CABE’s 2021 Multilingual Educator Magazine.
